12 Stories of Christmas
The Phoenix Project program helps veterans gain independence through stable housing and case management support. Eight apartments are available for up to two years. Last year, 18 military veterans were housed through this program.
Currently, we offer vocational training in culinary arts through our kitchen staff. This offers guests training and experience in food safety, food preparation and daily operational functions in a commercial kitchen setting to equip them with skills for placement in the food service industry.
medical Day Shelter
HomewardBound is the only facility in the Grand Valley that offers daytime respite to convalescing homeless adults. Through our Medical Day Shelter program, guests with doctors’ orders may stay in the shelter during the day to rest and recuperate, and are provided a free lunch.
Winter overflow shelter
Our Winter Overflow Shelter program accommodates additional guests when demand for services is at its peak during the coldest months. Last winter, the Salvation Army provided a facility and utilities, and Grand Valley Peace & Justice recruited, trained and scheduled volunteers to run the site.
